Shriya is not dating RaNa?

Shriya Saran's oomphy image is so overpowering that it almost overshadows the consistent work she has been doing in film industries across the country in six languages.

The actress was recently honoured with an award for her contribution to Telugu cinema, but it's her link-ups that make headlines.

In fact, we too couldn't resist asking what's really up with her and RaNa? "The media started it all. I've known him since he was in school. I've known him and his family for more than eight years. I respect the family. RaNa and I are not dating."

Ask her about the award and she says, "I am humbled by the honour because filmmaking is a team effort. I always make it a point to thank all those great scriptwriters who create the characters actors play; then, there are directors and cameramen who bring the character to life and it's left to the actors to put soul into the character."

Work wise, she is in good company with Deepa Mehta's adaptation of Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children, Rowthiram in Tamil with Jiiva and Casanova in Malayalam with Mohanlal.

Being a student of literature, Shriya is excited about playing a role in the adaptation of Midnight's Children. "It's a beautiful book. I read and re-read it many times. I love Salman's style of writing and the manner in which he brings in history into the story. His sense of humour and characters are intriguing and real at the same time." So, what's her role in the film? "I'd love to tell you but I am under contract. I cannot talk about the film."

On the recent spa she had started in Mumbai that employs visually challenged people, she says, "It all started off when I was in college — I misread a bus number and landed at an institute for the blind where children in the campus were playing cricket with a ball that makes a sound. I went up to the boy who was batting to ask for directions to find my way back. He asked me what brought me to the campus in the first place and after I explained, he remarked, 'Didi, I don't miss a single ball that's bowled even though I am blind, how come you can see and misread your bus number?' That remark changed my life!"
